Local cafe (and [info]joshc stomping-ground) Victrola shuts down wifi on the weekends now, due to overcampification:

"They have received a few nasty emails." So fitting that the people who spend 8 hrs in a cafe leeching wifi are the same people who can't confront the cafe workers in person.

[via everyone jwz, slashdot, wspr at least I thought I saw it there, oh well.]

I wonder if they walked a couple of blocks down the street to send the nasty e-mails from Cafe Ladro?

(I don't think I've been there since the changes went into effect.)

I like how you use "they"...as if you're not one of these people.

delusion is my favorite self-defense mechanism.

p.s. you've been 'slogged' (sort of, if amy fixes the link)

I hate walking into a coffee shop and wanting to sit down after I get my drink and all the tables are taken by laptop users. Of course, if I had a laptop, I might change my mind, though.

I'm pretty fascinated by this topic: would you get annoyed if all of the tables were occupied by non-laptop users?

If the coffee shop is filled with non laptop users and I have no room to sit, I am still annoyed. Laptops do take up a bit more room than someone reading a book or doing the crossword in the newspaper, though.

I think I'd generally find it less horrifying to share a table with a stranger if we were both using laptops. Also, when I'm not using a computer I tend to have a ton of papers spread out; so this business about laptop users taking up too much space seemed like a foreign concept to me.

Laptop campers drive me fricking nuts. If it were a person with a book out, there is room enough to be polite and share the space. Laptops fill the whole table. Of course, I'm also an angry old man who thinks that students should go to the fricken library to do their homework, not camp out at Zoka shooting anyone who dares hold a conversation dirty looks.

I want a WiFi version of the TV-Clicker... you know, the one that turns the tv at the bar off? One of those that crashes the server. *evil grin*
