27

Now I'm 27. I feel a little bit of this, but mostly very happy from all the love directed at me over the past 24 hours. Thank you for thinking of me.

I like the way that Buster spent the month leading up to his birthday reflecting on the past year, and drafting a manifesto/mantra for the next.

I'm a man of fewer words, but I wanted to share two mantras that I hope to live by for my 28th year of life:

"Abundance mentality", means that with the exception of our planet's precious natural resources, there's an endless supply of most things (creativity, love, and energy), and a near-endless supply of everything else (time, money). With respect to time, a.m. means being patient. With respect to the accomplishments of friends, it means being proud of them, not jealous that they've succeeded. In general, it means challenging the notion that I'm playing a zero-sum game.

"Always say yes", means turning 'Yes' into my default answer, or at the very least thinking about a question that makes me uncomfortable before automatically saying 'No'. I'd like to be more spontaneous, willing to step out of my comfort zone, to face my fears, to live a life different from the default one that's been scripted for me by my background and society (no matter how comfortable that default life might be).

Finally, credit where it's due: I learned about a.m. from the great book "7 Habits of Highly Effective People" (though it's not one of the 7 habits), and I learned about a.s.y. from get rich slowly.
