This was the only decent shot I got of them, because the no photography rule in the theater was being aggressively enforced so I was shooting from the hip. For instance, I didn't even realize I was in b&w mode.

Last night, Venessa and I made the trek down to Tacoma to see Air (French Band). Before the show, we sampled some of Tacoma's fine beer-crafting and trivia at Engine House 9. The show was at the old Pantages Theater, which was like a more beautiful and smaller Paramount. Our seats were 5 rows back and in the middle of the row, so we had pretty much the best view in the house.

The opening act, Katie Havnevik, was a Scandinavian electronic singer with "My First Drill 'n Bass" drum loops and songs with obtuse lyrics. I bet you can guess who her main influence is...

Air's set had a great mix of songs spanning their entire career. They played a balance of instrumentals, vocals, and vocoder-vocal songs. Also a perfect balance of downtempo songs, and some surprisingly punchy renditions of uptempo tracks like "People in the City" and "Remember".

Their touring drummer was so amazing. He was playing a standard drum kit, an electronic drum rig, and other miscellaneous percussion instruments all at the same time. Nicolas played bass most of the time, and together with the drummer, they formed a rhythm section that really held the rest of the band together.

The encore finished with a long and slowly building version of "La Femme d'Argent" which literally had people dancing in the isles by the end of it.
